The Only Good Indians by Stephen Graham Jones

Rating: 3 out of 5.

I really wanted to love this, but I really just couldn’t. It’s not that it was bad or anything, it just wasn’t my thing. Honestly, I spent almost the first half wondering if these guys had just lost their minds until I finally started to think maybe something was after them. For me, it just seemed to progress so slowly and there were parts that started to get creepy, but then got kind of gory instead. Not really my cup o’ tea.

Thankfully I listened to the audiobook and it was entertaining enough to listen to. The narrator was pretty good, his voice was definitely pleasing to listen to. I was just expecting and/or hoping to be truly freaked out. So when I wasn’t, I was a bit less than excited about the book. It would have been better had I not heard of it previously. I think I’d have liked it more. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ It’s just that I was thinking it was going to be this stupendously frightening read, but it wasn’t. This is more of a slow build eeriness.

While this one didn’t do it for me, I was still impressed by the writing and the tone set. If you read this one, I hope you enjoy it much more than I did!!
