The Exorcist by William Peter Blatty

Rating: 4 out of 5.

I have been putting off reading this book for years. I’ve been frightened of the movie since the first time I saw it and I knew the book would get me too. And it freaking did!!!! I cannot believe how much I was glancing over my should to see if there was anything behind me. For the record, I did this totally while sitting with my back to the wall, that’s how nervous I was. Can’t have something sneaking up on me!!!!

There was a good amount of background in the book that I didn’t expect.

***** Spoiler ***** I was also surprised at the amount of time Karras spent trying to figure out any possible alternatives it could have been besides possession. I’m guessing it was in part to his disbelief, but also the challenges he believes the church will throw out when submitting the exorcism request.

Strangely enough, once it was time to argue with the church about it, they didn’t seem all that argumentative about it. It seemed like, are you sure she’s possessed Karras? Karras confirms and they’re like, oh we better bring in “the one”… I’m just saying, the rest of the book made it seem like they would fight against doing one unless it seemed there was no other choice, but then he submits his request and they interviewed him and agreed right away. ***** Spoiler Over *****

Either way, my point is, I really enjoyed this!! It was thrilling, I was scared out of my dang wits, and it was very descriptive. Watch out and probably avoid eating while your reading this one. I mean… yikes… also, the stuff that happens to Regan… this is not for the faint of heart. And if possession scares the bejeezus out of you, then you’re either going to want to run or pick this one up.
