Escape by Emma Eggleston

Rating: 3 out of 5.

So I’m having trouble rating this one. There were so many ups and downs that my heart is totally torn and doesn’t want to choose stars. I could go for four stars, but I could just as easily choose two stars. That means I’m going straight down the middle. Here’s why…

I love the characters, Laila and Matty. They’re super adorable and I can relate to those who aren’t secure and having issues with depression and anxiety. I think a lot of people will relate to these two. I also really love the idea of the book, going on escapes is awesome and a very cool idea.

But,… of course there’s a but… lol… I did not like how this short book glossed over a ton of stuff. It kind of felt like we miss a whole lot. Like hey, we’re kids, fast forward, hey, we’re graduating high school now. Then oh hey, we’re adults all of a sudden. I think this could be like a four hundred page book with so much more. Cause I know I wanted more.

****tiny spoiler**** I also hated when Matty was acting like a jerk. It seemed so very out of character and made me wonder about his sanity, beyond the depression and anxiety. Don’t get me wrong, I still liked him as a character because of how severe his issues were and he’s totally relatable. Although, still mad at his dumb parents. Smh. At least they said it, sometimes even parents make mistake. Never were they truer words!!! Shhhhh, I can say that cause I’m a momma too!!!! Lmao ****mild spoilers over****

Anywho… so I have mixed feelings about this one still. I think I’ll be thinking about it for a very long time though. So that definitely counts as a good read. I recommend this to YA lovers and those who enjoy reading about some of the tough stuff in life. Not everything is roses and candy people!!!

Thanks so much to the author, Emma Eggleston for allowing me to read this book for my honest and unbiased opinion. Can’t wait to see what you’ll write next!!!
