Sometimes a book comes along that touches the very depths of your soul that will forever stay with you. This book did that for me and I will always remember it. Of course, I will be rereading this in the future, so it’s hard to forget something you reread. That’s my roundabout way of saying this one gets a bazillion stars!!!!
Yadriel is an amazing protagonist because he is so very easy to relate to. He struggles with his identity and how not many people know the true him. It’s hard to remain true to yourself with so many people rejecting the thought or doubt you and what you’re saying to them. It’s simply heartbreaking. But Yadriel gives voice to those people. But he’s my champion because he’s not afraid to say who he is. Those around him just struggle to understand that.
He isn’t the only one I adore in this book, Julian and Maritza are so very easy to love as well. Their fierce love of family and friends is amazing! They both also make me laugh and have a snarkiness that is just too fun!! I actually don’t think snarkiness is a word, but it should be.
I fell quickly into this read and could not stop!! I had to know what happened and where things were going. Even when things slowed down, I was still on the edge of my seat wanting to see how things were blossoming!! **suggestive eyebrow wagging occurs here** 😜
***** Spoilers ***** I did wonder early on if Tio Catriz had something to do with what was happening, but it was really just a wild guess. And although I did guess that perhaps Julian was alive, it was mainly just me wishing that he was so there would be a happy ending!!! And I got my wish!!!!! ***** Spoiler Over *****
This is most definitely one of my favorites of this year and I’m so glad it kicked off my month of October!! What a perfect read for this month!! I recommend this to everyone really, but especially to those who battle with people understanding who they are. It’s good to know you’re not alone and that you don’t need a ghost attached to you to be understood.
