This was a great read!! I got this in my Once Upon a book club box and it was seriously so good. First of all, the cover!!!! It’s just gorgeous. And I’m definitely a sucker for a beautiful cover. Second, the story!!! I was soooo compelled by Tarisai’s story and how crappy her situation was.
Which means, I was pulled in immediately and had such a hard time putting this down. The relationships in this book are complex and heartfelt. I wanted her to be triumphant and rose above any constraints or obstacles in her way. Sanjeet… oh my… he is just so sweet and I love him so much!!! Kirah is also a favorite of mine. How could she not be?!?! She’s like sweetness and healing mixed together. And of course Dayo is just lovable as can be. Not my favorite, but I still liked him. A little too naive for my taste.
I love how you’re brought to the very ends of the earth in this book and all the relationships are stressed and tested. It’s a powerful book to take you to the edge of the end, but then bring you back again. I won’t go into detail because I don’t want to spoil the book, but it’s amazing. This is also steeped in culture and vibrant details. The colors are simply exploding from the pages!!
I recommend this book so very much!!! Young Adult lovers will enjoy this one, as well as those who like reading about different cultures, love, and the test of friendship. Just pick it up and start now!!!
