This book… it was emotional, tackled some very real issues, and I still laughed out loud multiple times. You get hooked in the beginning and it’s interesting throughout. There are no fillers here, which is great.
Aibileen and Skeeter are my favorite characters, hands down, but I liked most of the other characters too. The good guys I mean. But I love to hate those spouting unjust gobbledygook. I’m not going to go into detail because that’ll just ruin the story. But I was definitely cheering for my favorites.
In cheering for the protagonists, I was literally jumping up and yelling at those who were doing harm to others. Then, what really gets me is that the depiction of that time is spot on. It’s horrifying how badly people can treat other people. Like seriously, separate but equal? That’s ridiculous, but people honestly thought that was being fair. Wtf.
So I recommend this book to all adults and young adults who are more mature. I especially recommend listening to the audiobook. It was fantastic!!! Oh,and if you’re a bit sensitive, keep a box of tissues nearby!!! I certainly needed it!!!
