Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moremo-Garcia

Rating: 5 out of 5.

I debated for a hot second before I strolled forward with the 5 Star rating. For me, it just started out super slow and I wasn’t super interested in what was going on for a while. Trust me when I say, that was all buildup to the craziness that ensues. Once it really hits, it is a super wild ride all the way to the end.

Noemi is a lovely main character, but she wasn’t really my favorite. Francis was actually my favorite because he’s just so sweet and I can’t help it. Gotta love a guy who is quiet and has a brain. The great thing about this book was that I have an opinion about each character. There aren’t too many books that can elicit a reader to care one way or another about the majority of the characters, but this is one of them. I either really liked or really disliked everyone. I’m not going to go into detail cause that’s not really what I do, but I basically wanted to hit or hug all the people.

The story though, it was great! I’ll admit that I was able to guess some of the ending, but that was only because I threw out a few things in jest that just happened to be true!! I love it when that happens btw. Seriously though, this was just wild and I kept asking, WTF!?!?! Because shit seriously hits the fan and then the cringeworthy horror takes over and haunts you to the end. Actually, I’m requesting a sequel so, I suppose there doesn’t really have to be an end. Don’t worry, no cliffhanger or anything like that. Just a book so good that I want more!!

I really recommend this to those who like a creepy story with a slow build into a raging roller coaster at the end. But beware, leave yourself plenty of time to just binge the rest once you hit like 60%, unlike I did because I could NOT put it down and was up till the wee hours of the morning. Enjoy!!
